How to get more Google reviews (without breaking the rules)
Most happy customers will leave a review. They just need to be asked at the right time, with one tap. Here's how, and what Google doesn't allow.
The short version
- Ask every customer, the same day the job is done.
- Send a link that opens the review form directly. Every extra tap loses people.
- Never pay for reviews, offer discounts for them, or only ask the happy ones. Google can take them down.
Most businesses with lots of reviews aren't better than their competitors. They just ask. Customers who had a good experience are usually glad to help, but they won't think of it on their own.
Ask while it's fresh
The best time is right after the job, while they're happy with it. A week later, they've moved on. A text works better than an email for most people, because it's one tap on their phone.
Make it one tap
Don't tell people to "find us on Google." Send the direct review link. It's in your Google Business Profile under "Ask for reviews," and it opens the star rating right away.
What's allowed and what isn't
| What | Not allowed | Fine |
|---|---|---|
| Who you ask | Only customers you know are happy | Every customer |
| Rewards | A discount or gift for a review | A thank you |
| Who writes it | You, staff, or family | The customer |
| Bad reviews | Trying to get fair ones taken down | Replying calmly and making it right |
Reply to every review
A short thank you on good ones, and a calm, specific reply on bad ones. People reading reviews watch how you handle problems as much as they count stars. Keep it short, don't argue, and offer to fix it.
A simple routine
- Copy your review link from your Google Business Profile
- Save a short text: "Thanks for having us out today. If you have a minute, a review helps a lot: [link]"
- Send it the same day each job is finished
- Reply to each review within a few days
